Education Cuts

Why is it that education is always the first thing to get cut? And “Cal Grants are to be spared” meaning that if you received a Cal Grant you will be fortunate enough to still be receiving one. So, ok California, lets cut education and health care. Good Idea.

As a college student I depend on getting my Cal Grant every year. Without that Grant I would have 10 thousand dollars more in loans per year. Thank God I’m graduating at the end of next year.  I probably wouldn’t get the Cal Grant for following year and be forced to put my degree on pause. (Or be forced into greater debt.) I probably shouldn’t be complaining because I do go to a Private school, but that doesn’t mean that classes aren’t getting cut and teachers aren’t going on strike. I feel for my friends at state school because classes are ridiculously getting cut! California State schools will not be accepting ANY new students for Spring 2010. Usually over 35,000 students apply for spring, and now they won’t even be given a chance.

I feel most for kids that are graduating high school. It will be impossible to get decent financial aid and even harder to get into state schools. However, it’s also a horrible year to graduate college because no one is hiring. Oh economy, please get better!
